Lyle,
I am going thru the Guitar Fret Theory CD and have a quesiton about counting intervals when moving up or down a string.
I understand the step, half step theory.
How do you count the move from the G string down to the D String... say if you want to go down a perfect 5th from the A note (second fret -G) to the D string.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm a bit slow on some of this stuff.

From any note, anywhere, a perfect 5th interval is 3 1/2 steps (7 frets).

From the G string (3rd string) 2nd fret (A),
to go a 5th below,
just count backwards 7 frets worth, (open D).
