I have a Audigy2 sound card by creative labs,and I am running windows XP home, can anyone tell me how do I plug into and make a file. I have tryed pluging into the mic jack on the card and then looking for a file but that did not seem to work.

You need to use recording software to record your music (presumably guitar) You can use a microphone in front of your amp as one technique. If you don't have any guitar specific software with effect/processing this may be the best way because you can use youramp/pedal effects as you would do in normal playing. With this method you can use the sound recorder that came with XP. this is under start/programs/accessories/entertainment. If you use more sophisticated software (which may have demo version to try.. Cakewalk etc...) then you might use the Line in port on the soundard. Just remember that you need to use XP setting under control panel/sound to define what your computer is using for recording (line vs microphone)
