Jazz Connection - Wednesday - Week 4

Today's lick is another chord phrase this time for C7. It used a few classic jazz guitar chords moves (which you should extract and use separately). In fact, the first four chords is a great C7 chord riff using the Cdim7 as a passing chord. The 4th thru 7th chords is another nice phrase for C7. Putting these two phrases together creates a longer line, and in this case leads to the high C9 voicing. The next Gm7 voicing stumps many players because of it's fingering. I play it with my 2nd finger playing a double-stop covering both the 1st and 2nd strings. This leaves my 4th finger available to grab other notes if I want. Too hard? Play the two strings with your 2nd and 3rd fingers, the 3rd string with your 4th and the 4th string with your 1st. The jam track is a C7 vamp for you to practice the lick. The chord order below is: C7, C11, Cdim7, C7, Dm7, Ebdim7, C7, C9, Gm7, C9, C11, C13.
