Today's lick is reminiscent to the sound and style of guitarist John Sykes from Whitesnake. Notice the offbeat vibrato on the second and third notes of this example and how its effect produces a unique and appealing sound. Vibrato is a very important technique to learn and can help you turn a simple lick into a dramatic and emotion filled phrase. After you learn this lick, try playing scales you already know while applying vibrato to each note. Use slight to heavy vibrato by wiggling your finger, slow or fast, on the each of the fretted notes.
