Guitar F/X Licks - Phase Shifters 

Harmonizers, also called harmony synthesizers or pitch transposers, are often used by guitarists to fatten the sound with a parallel harmony line.  Notable users of the harmonizer include Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, Allan Holdsworth, Mike Stern, and many others.  Today's lick presents the most typical use of the harmonizer effect-to create a parallel harmony one octave away from the original note.  This example uses the harmonizer to add a parallel note an octave below the input signal.  The lick is in D minor and combines notes from the D Blues Scale (D-F-G-Ab-A-C) and the D Natural Minor Scale (D-E-F-G-A-Bb-C).  It was played on a Fender Strat with the octave-below harmony effect and distortion produced by a Zoom 9002 multi-processor.
