Psychedelic '60s - Miller @ Monterey Pop Festival
The Moby Grape volunteered to be the first band to play on Saturday at the '67 Monterey Pop festival which featured bands like Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, Booker T & many others. This week will feature some of the first licks played at this historic event.
Today's lick is kind of a mix between Freddie King and Albert Collins. The lick starts in the A Major Pentatonic scale pattern, then moves to the A Minor Pentatonic scale and resolving on the major 3 of the A Major Pentatonic scale. Notice the cool pull-off in the middle of the lick using the 3rd, 4th and 5th strings.
