This Sly & the Family Stone type lick starts by strumming the lower notes of the A major barre chord and then immediately picking the higher strings of the chord. Continue this lick by playing the D major chord by barring your 3rd finger on the 7th fret (2nd - 4th strings). The phrase ends by using the 1st & 2nd fingers to play the G# maj. 3rd and sliding into the A maj. 3rd interval.
