Guitarists Who Shaped the 80s - Monday - Week 3 |
Today's lick is a chugging, power chord riff reminiscent of guitarist Mick Mars from Motley Crue. Mick's style of heavy metal rhythm guitar was dominant throughout the '80s. In the example below, you'll be playing power chords on the G (3rd) and D (4th) strings and palm muting all the open A (5th) string notes. As you learn this lick, the power chords you'll be playing in order are A5, G5, F5, G5, A5, G5, F5, and E5. This is a classic heavy metal chord progression from the '80s and should be played loud.
