Evolution of Jazz Guitar - Tuesday - Week 2

Be-Bop Guitarists

Tal Farlow (1921 - '98) got his start on the guitar at the age of eight. He continued into his adulthood gaining more interest after hearing Charlie Christian. His first big gig was a USO stint with pianist Jimmy Lyons during World War II. Although his claim to fame gig was with the Red Norvo trio in 1949.

Here's a fun lick to throw in your bag of tricks. It's loaded with lots of chord tones and chromatic approaches. Make sure you catch all of the pull-offs, they will help the line flow smoothly. Try practicing this and all other swing eighths lines with a metronome on beats 2 and 4 to improve your swing feel.
