Post Be-Bop GuitaristsGrant Green (1931 - '79) is known for his wonderful tone along with a very bluesy approach to playing jazz. He started playing around the age of 13 and soon became involved with the rhythm & blues scene in St. Louis. After hearing Charlie Parker and Lester Young, Grant was hooked on jazz. In the '60s Lou Donaldson discovered Grant and he began to make records for the Blue Note label. He worked with artists like Jimmy Smith, Stanley Turrentine, Joe Henderson, Hank Mobley and Yusef Lateef.
In today's example, you'll learn a real classy lick for a V7 - Imin progression. Notice that the first bar has several triplet embellishments that lay nicely on the fretboard. The second measure is based entirely within the Cmin blues scale so you will have plenty of opportunities to use it again.
